Notice of Cancellation of Johann Strauss II: Die Fledermaus Performances
We regret to announce that we are cancelling the Seiji Ozawa Music Academy Opera Project XVIII performances of Johann Strauss II: Die Fledermaus, which were scheduled for March 2020, in consideration of the spreading impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to those who were looking forward to this.
Refund procedures for ticket fees will commence on Thursday, March 5 at applicable ticket agencies/ticket windows. Inquiries regarding how to receive your refund can be made from March 5 (Thursday) at the ticket agencies/ticket window where you purchased the ticket. You will need your ticket to obtain a refund, so please be careful not to lose it.

The Seiji Ozawa Music Academy forms its orchestra with young, talented musicians who are chosen by audition from Japan and other Asian countries. Under the guidance of Academy Director Seiji Ozawa and coaches, they rehearse together with world-class singers and stage director to create an opera and then present those results in performances. Because this is an educational project that places value on the practice process and progress of growth, an environment where the students can focus with a feeling of security is very important.
Furthermore, we were planning to have orchestra members from Asian countries, and the director and many singers from western countries travel to Japan. Many measures are being implemented in Japan to prevent the spread of infection. However, with each passing day, more and more countries/regions are calling to cancel or postpone travel to Japan, and we cannot deny the possibility that issues may occur upon entering or leaving the country.
This was a truly difficult conclusion, but we have thus decided to cancel the performances to prioritize the safety and health of the audience, performers, and staff. In accordance with this, we will also cancel the March 13 Opera for Children and March 8 Mini Concert Vol. 1. To all who were planning to attend, as well as performers and staff, we apologize once again and ask for your kind understanding.
