Seiji Ozawa Music Academy Opera Project XVIII Cast and Ticket Information Announcement
The Seiji Ozawa Music Academy is happy to announce Die Fledermaus as the 2020 Opera Project XVIII.
Die Fledermaus, an operetta by J. Strauss II, was last performed by the Academy in 2016. Music Academy Artistic Director Seiji Ozawa and Mo. Christian Arming will conduct the performances. Arming will join the Academy again, having conducted the very successful 2019 Opera Project, Carmen.
The Music Academy has once again assembled a wonderful cast of international opera singers and performers. As Gabriel von Eisenstein, we are delighted to welcome the return of Adrian Eröd, who was an enormous success in our 2016 production. Metropolitan Opera soprano, Wendy Bryn Harmer, will make her debut with the Academy as Rosalinde. Other cast members include Canadian Russell Braun as Falke and Anna Christy as Adele.
Japanese multi-talented star Matsuo Deluxe will make operatic debut as the prison guard Frosch. Matsuko Deluxe is a big fan of Mo. Seiji Ozawa and we are excited to see what unpredictable sparks and twists will happen on stage in Act Three!
David Kneuss returns as Stage Director.
The Seiji Ozawa Music Academy Orchestra believes that playing an opera is a huge opportunity for young musicians to grow. The musicians, who are selected through auditions in Japan, Korea, Taiwan and China, will be under the guidance of Artistic Director Ozawa and the brilliant members of the Saito Kinen Orchestra who serve as teachers.
Performances will take place in Kyoto, Tokyo and Nagoya.
At the ROHM Theatre in Kyoto an educational program, “Opera for Children” for elementary school children in Kyoto Prefecture will also be presented.
Tickets go on sale on Saturday, December 14, 2019. For the first time in Academy history reduced tickets for young people under the age of 25 (U-25) will be offered.
